Life is Not Easy

Duties of Living

Out of the vast reservoir of human’s, we are individuals – each making our way alone. We are the captain of our individual life. (Except of course when outside forces like war, famine take over. And even then . . . )

For each of us, it is only depth of character that determines the
profundity (insight) with which we face life. We can either add to
our character each day, or we can fritter away our energies in
distractions. Those who learn how to accumulate character
each day achieve a depth that cannot be successfully opposed.

Tao 365 Meditations

And for a bit more help in figuring out how to live your life:

Imagine life is a game in which you are juggling five balls. The balls are called work, family, health, friends, and integrity. And you’re keeping all of them in the air. But one day you finally come to understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls – family, health, friends, integrity – are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered. And once you truly understand the lesson of the five balls, you will have the beginnings of balance in your life.

James Patterson, Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas, 2001, pp 20.

Life is not easy. Perhaps life is not supposed to be easy.
