Today’s shocking Blog is to remind us all that perhaps Charity really does begin at home:
Charity of the week
FEED THE CHILDREN
One in five children in the U.S. lacks reliable access to food and nearly 30 million kids depend on the meals they get at school. When school is out for the summer, Feed the Children (feedthechildren.org) steps up. Through its newly expanded Summer Feed & Read program, the group is serving tens of thousands of breakfasts and lunches to kids in Memphis, Atlanta, and Oklahoma City this year. Along with their meals the children are offered free books and information of how to participate in their local libraries’ summer reading programs. During the school year Feed the Children also provides students with home and hygiene essentials, such as soap and toothpaste. Last year, the nonprofit delivered nearly 90 million pounds of food and supplies to 10 million children across the country.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator which rates not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances their governance practices, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest rating.
